Rug labels and packaging are made from 100% organic cotton endorsed by the world's leading textile processing standards for natural fibers: GOTS. The cotton is presented in its natural state, i.e. without undergoing any dyeing process, hence reducing water consumption. In addition, the packaging is reusable, eschewing the linear and short-term 'take-make-dispose' approach.
It is worth noting that the use of organic cotton reduce the contribution to global warming (46%), soil erosion (26%), water consumption (91%) and energy demand (62%) compared to conventional cotton, according to the global non-profit organization Textile Exchange.
To protect rugs in the logistics process (transport and storage), a low-density polyethylene (LDPE) tubular sheet is currently used, which contains a high percentage of recycled plastic in its composition. The use of this type of plastic leads to a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions in manufacturing.
Likewise, the paper used for the brand’s promotional material is certified to FSC standards. This accreditation guarantees that the timber used to create the paper is sourced from forests managed according to the criteria of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The FSC ensures sustainable management of forests, focusing on ecological, social, and economic aspects, among others. However, nanimarquina also tries to minimize the use of paper and printing as much as possible each year, promoting the use of digital formats.
