Eduardo Chillida

Details

Inspired by the artwork of Eduardo Chillida, this indoor rug pays tribute to the collage Gravitación 1997.

The Gravitaciones series were not simple overlapping paper cut-outs, but relief sculptures. Chillida playfully took the concept of gravitating almost to the limit, because the paper weighed so little. By suspending different types of paper he achieved a dramatic effect, exerting a new tension in the way the paper fragments overlapped or intercalated, in turn creating spaces of light and shadow between them.

This tensionwas our prime focus in transforming his work into a rug. Playing with ancestral techniques, fibers and different heights, the suspension that Chillida was looking for has been reflected.

  • Total height

    15mm

  • Density

    124,000 knots/m2

Fibers

95% New Zealand Wool

Typically, New Zealand wool is known to be the whitest, cleanest, purest and most natural wool in the world. Its softness is due in part to the altitude and the vegetation available to the herds. It is guaranteed to be cruelty-free.

5% Silk

Silk is a highly resistant fiber and provides exceptional softness and a luxurious shine. It reflects light and amplifies colors to jewel-like intensity.

Technique

Hand knotted

Manual weaving made on a vertical loom where the thread is held tightly to the warp using knots.
