A collection that embraces the beauty of imperfection

Traditional Japanese arts, such as Hagi pottery, Ikebana (flower arranging), gardens, the Japanese tea ceremony, and poetry (such as haiku), captivate those who appreciate beauty.

These arts transmit the essence of wabisabi: the acceptance and contemplation of imperfection, the constant flow (the incomplete) and the impermanence of things. Wabisabi, impossible to encapsulate in a single word, is a profound concept.

The Wabisabi philosophy, influenced by Zen Buddhism for centuries, embodies the belief that true beauty is not found in perfection, but in the acceptance of imperfection. With this philosophy in mind, the collection creates a series of rugs that challenge conventional notions of perfection, inviting us to accept irregular, asymmetrical and incomplete beauty.

At nanimarquina, we wanted to transfer this philosophy to our art: the art of knitting. We emphasize that true beauty is not in perfection, we embrace the beauty of imperfection. Making mistakes is an avenue for the learning process and adds value to the journey. That's why we intentionally preserve these imperfections in the wool itself.

Our Wabisabi collection is a testament to this ethos. Each design is the result of knitting, experimenting, making mistakes and finding joy in the process. By skillfully adjusting the warp and weft, we create visual textures and rhythms that intertwine to form a sinuous and imperfect, yet exquisite pattern. These subtle irregularities add character and depth to each rug, inviting the viewer to appreciate the beauty of imperfection. We further emphasize this concept by using two contrasting colors to make the changes more visible.
