Design is and has always been a constant in Nani Marquina's life. In her outlook, her curiosity, her environment; from a very young age, sensitivity infused Nani to the core.
In her early childhood she was surrounded by people who inspired her, such as her father Rafael Marquina (pioneer of industrial design in Spain and creator of the revolutionary Marquina oil cruet in 1960). Predictably, that environment fueled her creativity and entrepreneurial spirit.
Nani embarked on her greatest adventure: to create an eponymous brand and storm the market with her revolutionary vision of turning the classic rug into a contemporary design product.
In the 1970s, a new path for design emerged, one closer to art, and Nani decided to experiment. When Spain's dictatorship ended and democracy was restored, revolutionary changes took place at every level—economic, social and political—completely transforming the country. It was a period of extraordinary vitality, euphoria and celebration. It is often described as the age of the design boom.
It was then that Nani embarked on her greatest adventure: to create an eponymous brand and storm the market with her revolutionary vision of turning the classic rug into a contemporary design product. 35 years on, the adventure continues, constantly changing along the way.
For us, a rug is the expression of many things: intuition, restlessness, magic. It is the embodiment of our desire to share our passion for design and to preserve an ancient craft.
We strive to share Nani's vision and we endeavor to do so the best way we know: by combining design, tradition and sustainability from a practical standpoint, proposing innovative rugs and accessories that interact responsibly with people and the planet.
We want our carpets to reach more homes, hotels, restaurants, and so on, so that more people can enjoy them as much as we enjoy creating them.
35 years. This is a special year for us, and we want to celebrate it with our people. Sharing who we are and what inspires us. Our rugs. Our soul.
