We care for people
Respect for craftsmanship is one of our maxims. Each rug preserves and brings to life its beautiful culture, in addition to having the unique imprint of the people and hands that have worked on them. That is why, since 2002, we have been collaborating with Care & Fair, an organization founded in 1994 to fight child labor and improve the quality of life of rug manufacturers and their families in India and Pakistan, the countries where our products are made. With the financial support of nanimarquina, Care & Fair has funded the Amita Vidyalaya school in Bhadohi through the Kala project, as well as health centers in collaboration with other companies in the sector.
At nanimarquina we are committed to craftsmanship and the preservation of the local economy, fostering its development.
We care for the planet
We ensure that the entire chain, from the design concept to the choice of materials, processes and techniques, is as environmentally friendly as possible.
From the outset, we have been designing long-lasting rugs that do not take part in the throwaway consumer culture and that foster recycling, thus promoting a more conscious form of consumption. An example of this was the 2005 launch of Bicicleta. This circular collection gives a second lease of life to bicycle inner tubes. This year we have added Re-Rug to our catalogue, a circular collection that emerged from the decision to use the wool leftovers accumulated by our suppliers in India. Each Re-Rug uses 1kg/m2 of reprocessed wool, thereby directly helping to reduce unmanaged waste and Co2 emissions, since no virgin material needs to be produced or shipped.
In 2013, we incorporated Eco-Sheen and Jutex biodegradable, chemical-free products into our cleaning process. This enables us to guarantee the protection of human health and the environment against the risk that the use of chemical substances may pose, in addition to reducing water consumption by up to 70%.
In 2017 we went outdoors with our outdoor collection. Made from 100% recycled PET fiber obtained by recovering and reusing polyethylene waste, the outdoor collections are highly resistant to water and adverse weather conditions. By using recycled PET, we repurpose plastic bottle waste, minimizing the impact of plastic burning in India.
Our latest milestone in terms of sustainability is the achievement of Climate Neutral certification. After developing a measurement, reduction and compensation program, nanimarquina chooses a zero-emissions future.
In addition to establishing an annual reduction plan that allows us to continue auditing and reducing CO2 emissions year after year, nanimarquina participates in an offset program consisting of two independent projects certified by Gold Standard.
These initiatives located in India, the country which has helped us establish our brand through craftmanship, ensure that the net emissions emitted by the company are equal to zero.
2021 carbon footprint offset 1,256.61 tCO2
The compensation plan consists of the development of two independent Gold Standard audited projects located in India, the country that has helped us establish our brand through craftsmanship.
20 MW biomass power in Chhattisgarh, India
Located in northern India, this biomass-based sustainable energy project generates electricity using rice husks from local communities. By replacing the fossil fuel source of energy with a renewable fuel, this project reduces CO2 emissions at the same time as local waste. In addition to the positive environmental impact, this initiative puts other benefits at the service of the community, such as a health center and educational activities.
Clean cooking with biogas, India
In India, 800 million people still cook on an open fire. This contributes to greenhouse gas emissions which negatively affect the climate and people's health (more than a million people die each year). The project is responsible for supplying biogas facilities to farming families, which means benefits for health, in addition to saving time in housework and the search for firewood.
